Iran has declared its framework agreement with the United States null and void, accusing Washington of violating the accord. This announcement, made by Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, underscores Tehran’s stance amid escalating regional tensions. The Iranian government has argued that the U.S. has not fulfilled its obligations under the Islamabad declaration of intent, prompting Iran to suspend the agreement.
The framework, established in mid-June, aimed to pave the way for a lasting resolution to the hostilities between the two nations. It laid out a plan for negotiating a final agreement within a 60-day timeframe and included measures concerning the reopening of the crucial Strait of Hormuz. However, the agreement’s effectiveness has been called into question following recent developments.
Initially, a ceasefire had been observed since early April, but the situation deteriorated in early July, leading to a resurgence of conflict. The renewed tensions have significantly hampered diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the long-standing issues between Iran and the United States.
