New Logistics Route Cuts Sharjah-Oman Cargo Transit to 35 Days

by admin477351

Sharjah has unveiled a new logistics corridor with Oman, slashing cargo transit times from nearly three months to just 35 days. This strategic initiative aims to enhance supply chain efficiency, cut down transportation expenses, and bolster trade connections between the UAE, Oman, and broader regional markets. The corridor links Sharjah with key Omani ports such as Sohar, Duqm, and Salalah, utilizing the Khatmat Malaha and Al Madam border crossings. Authorities anticipate even greater reductions in transit times as operations continue to evolve.

To promote the use of this corridor, Sharjah has implemented toll exemptions for cargo trucks traveling through approved routes from Oman. This initiative is complemented by expedited customs clearance, streamlined cargo movement, and an option for businesses to complete customs procedures at inland container terminals rather than at border crossings. Officials project that logistics costs could see a reduction of approximately 15%, depending on the type of cargo and transportation needs.

The corridor, operational since May 14, is expected to significantly benefit manufacturers by facilitating faster movement of raw materials and finished goods. This development aligns with Sharjah’s strategy to fortify its status as a regional logistics and manufacturing hub. With over 3,000 factories contributing to about a quarter of the emirate’s GDP, the enhanced trade route is poised to boost exports and attract international investors eager for access to markets in Africa, India, and Asia.

Backed by coordinated customs procedures, real-time data exchange, and designated fast-track shipment lanes, the corridor now supports cargo movement in both directions. The initiative represents a crucial step in Sharjah’s efforts to strengthen its economic ties with Oman and enhance its competitive edge in the global market landscape.
