The United Arab Emirates is set to incorporate artificial intelligence into its educational system, following a recent decision by the UAE Cabinet. This new curriculum will be implemented across both public and private schools, aiming to deepen students’ understanding of AI through topics like data, algorithms, applications, risks, and ethical considerations. In an effort to fully integrate AI into education, the initiative also plans to train 22,000 teachers and educators to effectively use AI in various aspects of teaching, including lesson planning and assessments.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, emphasized the importance of continuous learning for teachers to prepare students for a rapidly evolving future. Alongside educational advancements, the Cabinet approved an AI advisory system to assist ministers in reviewing policies and strategies. This system comprises 32 specialized AI assistants designed to evaluate proposals, assess their impact, study international practices, and make recommendations aligned with the UAE’s national priorities.
In a significant move towards embracing technology, the Cabinet has also established regulations governing autonomous vehicles. This framework is intended to guide the procedures for testing, inspecting, registering, and licensing self-driving vehicles, promoting cleaner transportation solutions and reducing traffic congestion across the UAE.
The government has reported substantial progress in its digital transformation efforts, with millions of digital transactions completed through government services over the past year. Additionally, numerous digital transformation projects have been successfully implemented, underscoring the UAE’s commitment to technological advancement.
The Cabinet’s recent meeting also saw the approval of a National Ecotourism Policy, alongside a review of the National Strategy to Combat Desertification for the years 2022 to 2030.
