The United Arab Emirates mourns the passing of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, brother of Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Sheikh Ahmed was laid to rest at Umm Hurair Cemetery in Dubai following funeral prayers at Zabeel Grand Mosque earlier this week.
In a show of solidarity, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, along with the Rulers and Crown Princes from various Emirates, gathered to offer condolences to Sheikh Mohammed. The leaders convened at the Zabeel Majlis, reflecting on Sheikh Ahmed’s contributions to the UAE.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who passed away on Monday, was known for his influential roles in both law enforcement and sports. He served as the deputy chairman of Dubai Police and chairman of ARM Holding. His passion for sports led him to establish the Jebel Ali Racecourse in 1990 and serve as the long-time president of Al Wasl Sports Club.
In tribute to his legacy and service to the nation since its formation, Dubai has declared a 10-day mourning period. Prominent figures, including Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi of Sharjah and Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi of Ras Al Khaimah, acknowledged his substantial impact on the country’s development.
The UAE’s leadership remembered Sheikh Ahmed for his dedication and contributions, which spanned across various sectors, leaving a lasting imprint on the community and the nation at large.
